"A professional playing and sounding harp guitar for a grand" - that has been my challenge to every builder for years now. Once I convinced Timberline® owner Rob Smith, I jumped in to collaborate. Rather than completely re-inventing the wheel, we based it on the Timberline® T20Ac Auditorium Cutaway body, which gives modern harp guitarists a hollow-arm steel-string harp guitar with easy access to the 20th fret. We experimented with bracing to come up with a road-worthy instrument that would yield great tone: a balanced neck, seamless transition from the low neck E to the first D sub-bass, all the way down to a killer low octave E. The solid tropical wood tops (and matching back & sides) not only look great, they sound sweet and smooth. The tapered body ends up over 4-˝” deep at the end pin to give extra power and growl to the sub-basses, while the neck is a standard Timberline®, with the comfortable 24.9" scale and nominal neck width. Stephen Bennett called our first production instrument "the real deal" at the Harp Guitar Gathering. I do too! |
