Transducer Systems |

We've teamed up to bring the
worldwide harp guitar community the first "off the shelf"
pick-up systems for builders and
players! Suitable for Dyer harp guitars, new
Dyer variants, and nearly any harp guitar you can dream up. Super-treble systems coming soon! |
Truly a match
made in heaven. After extensive research, I came to believe
that the best sounding amplification systems for acoustic
instruments - and specifically harp guitars - were those being
built by David Enke at PUTW. Fortunately, David was not only
receptive to the collaboration, but fully supportive of the
project, sharing our passion for the instruments - and the
sound! - Gregg Miner, owner, Harp Guitar Music
Pickup the World has
been manufacturing audiophile grade polymer film pickup
systems for over 15 years, and has developed some of the most
natural sounding and versatile pickups specifically available
for harp guitars. PUTW founder
David Enke has spent many years
working closely with Stephen Bennett and William Eaton, and
has designed what we believe to be the ultimate pickup systems
for amplifying harp guitars. As this work continues to move
forward positively, Pick-up the World is joining forces with
Harp Guitar Music to produce three different systems available for most Dyer-style instruments.
All feature:
-
Designed
specifically for Dyer-style instruments, but can be used for many
other harp guitars (with near-limitless customization available)

saddle transducers 1/8” wide and 3-3/4” long (any extra length bends

-
Authentic
reproduction of the acoustic tone and frequency response of harp
guitars.

Stereo cables
available separately
Basic
Harp Guitar System 1 (the “Outboard”)
 |
-
2 soundboard
(under bridge) transducers (“SBT”) for neck and sub
banks, wired in stereo
-
¼”stereo phone
jack (replaces end pin)
-
External 9v
Stereo Power Plug pre-amp with separate gain and volume controls
for each string bank (plugs directly into endpin jack, battery
inside). This pre-amp includes a stereo/mono switch on the output
and can use either a stereo or mono cable depending on the
application.
-
$295
|
This system has minimal on-board
parts and weight (5 grams for the sensors), and is very simple to
install. Other than making provisions for mounting the ¼” output
jack through the tailblock, there are no modifications to the
instrument. These pickups produce a tone that is as close to a good
pair of studio mics as possible, and is what Stephen Bennett uses in
his guitars. Cable not included. Stereo
cables available below.
Options:
- Basic System 1
with no pre-amp
|
|
- Basic System 1
with UST instead of SBT (Add $40). This option offers
higher volume before feedback and gives a stronger cutting power to
the signal with better string bank separation. The UST saddle
pickups are available in either 3/32” or 1/8” widths (specify), and
require a small hole drilled through one end of the bridge saddle
slots. The tone is excellent sounding and is extremely woody and
natural for this type of pickup.

Basic
Harp Guitar System 2 (the “Discreet”)
 |
-
2 soundboard
(under bridge) transducers (“SBT”) for neck and sub
banks, wired in stereo
-
¼” stereo
phone jack (replaces end pin)
-
Internal 18v
stereo pre-amp built into end jack
-
“Hidden”
volume controls for each string bank under lip of soundhole
-
$295
|
The same as System 1 described
above, except that the pre-amp is hidden inside the guitar. There is
enough wire length to allow the relative volume controls to be
placed under the treble side of the main soundhole or
various positions within the small soundhole of a typical
Dyer or similar instrument, whichever is most convenient for the
player. A small switch on the pre-amp module selects whether the two
string banks come out in stereo or mono. Two 9v batteries (affixed
under the neck block) provide maximum signal-to-noise and headroom.
Cable not included. Stereo cables available
below.
Options:
- Basic System 2
with UST instead of SBT (Add $40)

- Vintage Jack
System (see below) Add $80

Complete
Harp Guitar System (the “Dynamic Duo System”)
 |
-
2 soundboard
(under bridge) transducers (SBT) for neck and sub banks
-
2 under-saddle
transducers (UST) for neck and sub banks
-
Internal 18v
stereo “Stealth” pre-amp with “hidden” volume controls
for each string bank under lip of soundhole
-
$480
|
This killer system has all
David’s bells and whistles. The two most popular styles of
transducers integrated together for the ultimate in warmth, clarity,
natural sound and feedback resistance. The system combines a UST and
SBT for each string bank, and the player controls the balance
between the two string banks with a
panning thumbwheel. There is also a master volume located in the
very small “Stealth” pre-amp that is cleverly mounted just inside
one of the soundholes. This system runs 600 hours on 2 nine-volt
batteries and offers the best signal to noise and headroom specs
available. Cable not included. Special stereo
right-angle plug/cable available.
