Tyler Hawkins Track Listings
Lute Suite in G minor – BWV 995 Tyler Hawkins was deeply inspired by the Bach Lute Suite recordings of ten string guitarist Narciso Yepes (1927 - 1997). This motivation prompted an introduction with Toronto music instructor/composer Ted Lebar with whom he studied multi-string guitar technique at York University. The unique 17-string harp guitar was conceptualized by Toronto guitar instructor/composer Ted Lebar and built by Canadian luthier Sergei de Jonge. In many ways, Tyler's 17-string is like a baroque theorbo and lends itself well to the playing of most lute repertoire. It has eight strings on the neck and nine sub-bass strings in an unusual tuning developed by Tyler. Hawkins received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from York with Honours in Performance in 1990. He has since been working as an educator and private guitar instructor in the Northwest Territories. As an NWT Arts Council grant recipient, this CD release marks his debut as a professional concert guitarist. |
